We’ve got ten days to get the 30 orders we need for our BEE. GOOD. t-shirt on teepay to go to print. Help us create some buzz by ordering a tee to help a honeybee. Profits go to the British Beekeepers’ Association.

Why support bees?

We need honeybees to pollinate our food crops. Which makes the fact that they’ve been disappearing in large numbers recently rather worrying. People like the British Beekeepers’ Association (BBKA) are looking into it.

Our BEE. GOOD. t-shirt will support the BBKA’s research, if we get the 30 orders we need in the next ten days. Bees are good. Show them some love.

Why the bee tee?

The tees are designed by the very talented Antony Bridge. They’re printed on organic cotton. And they cost £25 for men’s and £20 for women’s. Profits go to the BBKA. You can see all the ordering info on the teepay website.

We’re posting it on teepay because we love howies’ idea for this site and want to support it. If the BEE. GOOD. shirt works out and we get the 30 orders we need, this will be the first in a series of ‘charitees’ we’ll design for teepay to support more causes that are close to our hearts.

Some bee background

It’s estimated that one in three mouthfuls the average person eats has been pollinated by honeybees. So we should be pretty worried that nearly 2 billion honeybees went missing during 2008.  The BBKA reckoned that cost the economy £54 million. If they keep disappearing we’ll find our fruit and vegetables get more expensive. And, of course, there’ll be no honey or beeswax.

What’s wrong with the bees? The varroa mite, neonicotinoid pesticides, intensive farming methods and even mobile phone masts have all been suggested as possible causes. But the fact is, we just don’t know enough to work it out. And that’s why the BBKA has been calling for more research into bee deaths.

The BEE. GOOD. t-shirt is our small way of helping out.

What else you can do

Pull on your t-shirt and head down to the library to borrow a copy of A World Without Bees by Alison Benjamin and Brian McCallum. Then check out ten things you can do to help bees. And if that’s inspired you to get a little closer to our stripy friends, check out how you could start keeping bees.

Show the bees some love. Order a tee or help us spread the word.
