Which university ranks top for website typos?

We used web spell checker Spellr.us to hunt for typos or spelling mistakes on websites belonging to the top ten UK universities in The Times Good University Guide 2010.

In terms of likely spelling errors — words that Spellr.us can immediately identify as mistakes rather than names or technical phrases — Oxford University came out top with just one typo. This reflects its position at the top of the league table. But not everything went to form. Cambridge ranks second in The Times table but came second from bottom in our test, with eight typos.
Here are some of the words the universities misspell on their websites:
- library
- harassment
- responsibility
- occasion
- dispel
- environment
- Mediterranean
- appealing
- occurrence
Of course, universities have big websites. So eight typos isn’t that many. But because any spelling mistake can damage credibility, typos are something you should pay attention to — whether you’re a university or a small business.
