Analysis for York St John Students’ Union
Writing consultancy
YSJSU wanted students to feel part of an organisation that lives by its values. Polon helped the union find the right words to talk effectively to its members.

Your words should reflect who you are
That’s the simple logic we applied to this project as we took a close look at YSJSU’s vision and values.
The union team had asked students what they wanted. They’d drafted a vision and set of values to guide the union’s work. Now they needed to put those actions into words.
We analysed the draft text and used colour-coding to show what the language it used — the tone of voice — said about the union. Did it talk directly to students? Did it include them, making them feel part of something special?
We used the results to show how YSJSU’s vision and values could use everyday language that students would find engaging.
