What do you do if you’ve got something important that you really have to say but that people don’t necessarily want to hear? Make it entertaining, of course.

It’s no coincidence that the BBC’s mission is to inform, educate and entertain. If you want to inform and educate, it helps if you entertain. So I’m really enjoying the trend for entertaining in-flight safety videos.

Air New Zealand made this great Hobbit-themed one recently:

In fact, they’ve been having quite a bit of fun with their safety videos over the last few years. They’ve even made a compilation of the highlights:

Crazy fitness instructors, rugby superstars – their safety videos have got it all.

Of course, they’re not the only airline doing this. But I think the publicity their latest video has generated shows they stand out from the crowd. And it also shows that making everyday words entertaining can be good for your brand.
